Coupon Lingo

For those new to coupon match-up blogs, there are a few things that can take a little getting used to - such as the secret couponing language. Some of you may be aware of all of these, but for those who aren't, here's what you need to know.

When looking at a deal, there are abbreviations for the coupon inserts found in the Sunday Paper.  There are four kinds of inserts that can be found on any given Sunday:
SS - Smart Source
RP - Red Plum
PG - Proctor & Gamble
GM - General Mills

Homeland doubles coupons that are worth $1 or less (only if you have a Homeland card - which you should get if you don't have it).  However, if a coupon says "Do Not Double" they will not double it.  So, if a coupon should not be double, it is generally noted with DND.

Here's an example of a deal:
Bush's Best Baked Beans - $1.79
Use $1/1 Black Bean Fiesta or Texas Ranchero Grillin Beans SS 10/3
Pay: FREE

What this means is that Bush's Beans are on sale for $1.79 a can.  There was a coupon in the paper on October 3 (10/3).  It was found in the Smart Source coupon insert (SS) and is for $1 off any can of Bush's Black Bean Fiesta or Texas Ranchero Grillin Beans.  Because Homeland doubles coupons worth $1 or less, the coupon will double to $2 and the can of beans will be FREE.

Another abbreviation you may see is "wyb" - this means "when you buy".  For example, there is a coupon for $0.75 off when you buy both a Betty Crocker Cake Mix and a Betty Crocker Frosting.  This would be noted with "Use $0.75 wyb B.C. Cake Mix AND B.C. Frosting".

Note: for coupons that are printable on-line, most sites post the link right there in the match-up.  Know that you can typically print 2 of each coupon from each computer.  Simply press the "Back" button to re-send the information and print a second coupon.  Again, Homeland will only double one of the same coupon in one transaction, so you will need to make two visits in order to get each doubled.
